IaaS market is maturing in India. Startups and SMB’s are realizing its potential.

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is ideally a highly automated cloud computing model enabling users' to self-provision computing resources complemented with storage capacity and networking solutions on an on-demand basis.

The infinite scalability and a pay-as-you-go pricing model have helped the Startups and SMB’s to opt in for Cloud IaaS Services.

IaaS is the base of the pyramid of Cloud services and is the foundation for implementation of a total Cloud solution.

In fact, IaaS services has helped business owners to focus on the market rather than technology. This helps them to increase their bottom line due to low upfront investment in technology. As a startup / SMB Company, IaaS solves one of their biggest problem ‘Initial Investment’.

Factors that fuel the growth of IaaS in India
-      We see a rapid increase in high speed internet connectivity across India and multiple service providers have pitched in their services, this has helped the both Startups and SMB’s to leverage on competitive pricing due to the ongoing bandwidth price war.
-      Costly Datacenter Hardware and Network device - This is big deterrent that prevents most Startups and SMB's from owning IT Hardware infrastructure.
-      Price of IaaS is getting competitive by the day.
-      IT market and IT usage / dependency in India is overwhelmingly increasing at a fast pace, enabling user driven growth.

Bottlenecks

-      Lack of awareness and clarity / information on the services provided by third party infrastructure provider (IaaS) particularly tailored for Startups and SMB’s.
-      Startups and SMB’s view Cloud Computing as a challenge though they are ready to embrace and cash in on its benefits.
-      Companies used to traditional computing infrastructure with their in-house data center, still consider Cloud to be less secure and less Private.
-      Media’s over emphasizes on data breach and data theft undervalues the benefits of online computing in India in the minds of common man.
-      Lack of simple pricing structure.
-      Customer Support is always a big challenge in India and has become one of the key concerns for Startups and SMB's business owners to be skeptical about.

Forecast

The market research firm Gartner had forecasts traditional data center outsourcing to reach $559 Million in 2017 while cloud IaaS will gross over $677 million and by 2021 the firm predicts three times quantum jump in Cloud compute and storage as a service and by 2021 the Cloud IaaS market in India is expected to exceed $2.1 Billion.

By 2020 the spending on Servers and Storage in India is expected to fall by 25% thus paving way for IaaS migration.
